c'est au printemps 1963 que Bloomfield à commencé ses "Tuesday night blues sessions" avec Big Joe Williams et d'autres vieux bluesmen oubliés au Fickle Pickel.
En Avril il rencontra pour la première fois Bob Dylan qui venait se produire au "Bear" à Chicago.

Pendant l'été 63, Bloomfield produisait quelques sessions pour Big Joe Williams qu'il accompagnait au Piano pendant que Charlie Musselwhite s'occupait de l'harmonica. Quand Williams les quitta, ils formèrent un quatuor appelé "The Group" et commencèrent à jouer au Big John's régulièrement.

Ira Kamin et Michael Melford avaient un groupe de Bluegrass dans lequel Bloomfield s'illustrait occasionellement à la guitare.  Melford se souvient qu'ils jouaient ensemble la nuit où le président Kennedy fut assasiné.

East-West est maintenant connu, il devient le titre qui termine chaque concert du groupe au début de l'année 1966.
Bloomfield étonne le public en crachant du feu pendant le titre qui pouvait duré jusqu'a une heure !

Barry Goldberg a probablement quitté le Flag vers février 1968, il apparait au Whisky A Go Go avec son nouveau groupe "The Barry Goldberg Reunion"
Il a peut être quitté le groupe plus tôt, en novembre 67 probablement à cause des problèmes de drogue dans le groupe, il fut remplacé par Michael Fonfara, futur clavier de Rhinoceros
mais c'est finalement Herbie Rich qui deviendra le clavier permanent du flag.
la raison du départ de Goldberg est simple, il fut le seul condamné lors de la descente de police au Golden Bear parce que le délit se passait dans sa chambre...il a écopé de 90 jours de détention à la prison d' Orange County debut Avril 1970...et vous savez quoi ? Goldberg n'a jamais pris de drogues dans sa vie !

Dans une interview pour Rolling Stones en decembre 69, Davis déclare que Bloomfield "joue pour les noirs" et que si quelqu'un l'associait avec James Brown...il exploserait tout !
Dans une autre interview de Rolling Stone publié en may 68, Clapton cite Bloomfield & Dylan comme les personnes les plus influentes dans son environement.

Le concert s'appelait le “Super Cosmic Joy-Scout Jamboree” et commençait avec les Ace of Cups suivi par Nick Gravenites et le Quicksilver Messenger Service (Gravenites produisait le concert).les morceau inédits viennent d'un second set qui comprenait James Cotton et des saxophonistes.
D'après Marshall Chess, l'idée de cet album vennait de Michael en personne. le titre, “Fathers and Sons,” est aussi une idée du guitariste.
